How To Resize Your Partitions with EASEUS Partition Manager

If you’ve ever had to resize a partition, or make new partitions, then I completely understand what you most likely went through. Good partition management software for Windows is hard to come by, well the free partition managers anyways. Almost everyone has heard of Partition Magic, but there is a hefty price tag that comes with it.
As it turns out, there is a great application out there just for the Windows home user. It’s called EASEUS Partition Manager, and you should download it today!
In this short tutorial, I’m going to increase the size of the C: drive on my Windows Vista PC.Important Note: Please backup your data before attempting to make changes to the partitions on your computer. There is always the potential for lost data – so take the time to ensure you have a good backup.

As you can see in the image below,  C: drive is about 40 GB, with only 5 GB of free space available.  My D: drive is a second partition on the same physical drive as my C: drive.  Under that you’ll notice I have 10 GB of Unallocated space.  This is space that was never assigned to anything.  I’m going to expand  C: drive to include this space – for a grand total of 50 GB.

The real trick in resizing the first partition on a multi-partition drive is in allocating the space in precisely the right location.  In this example, all of the unallocated free space is at the end of the D: drive, which means I’ll have to move it to the beginning of the D: drive, so that I can eventually add it to C: drive.  First, I’ll select the D: drive and click on the Resize/Move button.  A new window opens up and lets you enter the new settings that you would like to use.

How to Download and Install Windows 8 Into a Virtual Machine

The next version of Windows, currently known as Windows 8, was showcased in depth by Microsoft’s own Steven Sinofsky and other members of his team. Teased as a system that would "change everything", Windows 8 indeed includes new usage paradigms that are unheard of on the Windows platform, such a full-screen tile-based user interface and an app store, among others. Microsoft has pledged to keep the Developer Preview fresh by issuing periodic updates.

Download Windows 8 Developer Preview ISO 64-bit / 32-bit Now!

Download Windows 8 Developer Preview (64-bit) with Developer Tools
Download Windows 8 Developer Preview (64-bit) without the developer tools

Download Windows 8 Developer Preview (32-bit)

Most of you probably just want to check out Windows 8 without making a commitment to installing the OS on its own separate drive (or drive portion). No problem! You can still fiddle with the new OS in an environment that's much easier to remove once tinkering time ends, thanks to the power of virtual machines--applications that let you run a virtual PC inside your PC (cue Inception music).

Go grab VirtualBox and install the default package. Once you're finished, you'll open right into a fresh copy of the application. This is where you'll begin creating your system inside your system.

To start, click on the giant New button in the upper-left corner of the app. Give your virtual machine a clever name and select Windows 7 as the operating system. Make sure that your choice of OS (32-bit or 64-bit) matches whichever version of Windows 8 you downloaded.

Click Next, and you'll be taken to a screen that asks how much memory you'd like to devote to the virtual operating system. The 32-bit version of Windows 8 requires 1 gigabyte at minimum, and the 64-bit version requires 2GB, but the more RAM you can give the virtual OS, the better it will run. Click Next once you've made your choice.

How To Enable Windows 8 Safe Mode

Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode which loads a set of drives and processes sufficient to run Windows. The purpose is to identify root cause of hardware and software related anomalies with their respective threads to either apply fixes or to manually update or disable them. Although Windows 8 Developer Build includes relatively easy to use, automated system repair utilities like System Refresh and System Restore, along with Automatic System Repair to resolve a wide range of Windows boot issues, it doesn’t include Safe Mode option.

Unlike previous Windows versions, where one can easily enable/disable Safe Mode and other Advance Boot options from System Configuration utility, also called msconfig tool, Windows 8 requires user to manually enable Safe Mode boot option using Boot Configuration Data (BCD) Edit command. For those who are not familiar with BCDEdit, it’s a Windows tool written to store and define boot applications, as well as, boot application settings. The BCDEdit store handles Windows OS Boot.ini file by providing it with system and user specified boot applications and their configurations. In this post, we will guide you through the process of enabling Windows 8 Safe Mode option in Windows 8 Advance Boot Options menu.

The first step involves running Command Line Interpreter as an Administrator. From Start Orb hover menu, click Search. In search bar enter CMD and then click Apps. It will show CMD in main window. Now right-click it and from Advanced button present in bottom right corner, choose Run as Administrator.

Now enter the BCDEdit command as shown below.

How To Enable Facebook Timeline Right This Second

Facebook has announced Timeline, a crazy (and kind of creepy) omnibus look at everything that has ever happened in your Facebook lifespan. It’s like a story book of your life — or at least the online, documented parts.
Facebook said that Timeline would be on the way for everyone sometime in the coming weeks… which is great and all, for everyone else. You’re the type of person who reads TechCrunch, and are thus likely the type of person who likes their new and shiny things right now.
That’s okay. We can make it happen.
Fortunately, enabling Timeline a bit early isn’t too difficult — but it’s not at all straight forward, either.
You see, Facebook is enabling Timeline early for open graph developers. You, too, can be an open graph developer — even if you’re just looking to dabble.
A few things to note:
- You probably don’t want to do this unless you’re actually a developer. Expect bugs.
- Only you will see your timeline at first (unless you decide otherwise), but it will automatically go public after a few days. My timeline was automatically hard-set to go public on September 29th.
- It seems that if you login into Facebook on another machine, Timeline gets disabled automatically on all of your machines. With that said, it seems you can get back to your timeline (but ONLY after following the steps below) by navigating to http://www.facebook.com/YOURUSERNAMEHERE?sk=timeline
- You’ll need to have a “verified” account for one of the steps, which means you need a credit card or phone number attached to the account.

Here’s how to do it:

Step One – Authorize Facebook Developer To Access Your Account

The first step is to sign up as a Facebook developer. This involves enabling and authorising Facebook Developer to access your Facebook account. Just go here and click “allow“.

Complete Windows Drivers Backup Before Re-installing or Formatting Windows

In computer systems, whatever may be the configuration of the system and whatever may be the version of Windows operating system, we all know that drivers are one of the most important aspects for the system. Drivers are one of the major and key components in Windows systems that allow the operating system and some of the other programs to interact with the hardware. If you are assembling your own computer according to your needs and requirements then you will also need to install many drivers in your machine according to the hardware. Normally, all these hardware parts comes with their own drivers which must be installed. But, what if some day your OS gets corrupt and you need to reinstall it? Then, you will also need look again for all the drivers needed for them.

So, in order to provide a solution for this issue, we recommend you to take a complete backup for all the drivers installed in your system. For this, you can use one small and tiny tool named as Semper Driver Backup. It is basically a nice and it is available as a freeware tool for Windows. It allows you to take a complete backup for all the drivers in Windows and if in future there are any issues with the system then you can easily restore it back using the backup. By using this tool you can see all the installed drivers under Windows in your system.

This smart tool is very useful as it provides an easy-to-use driver backup and re-establishment utility to ensure that if there are any issues with your computer and if window crashes, then you’ll never have to find out these hardware drivers again. If we look into the working of this utility then we may observe that only with a single click it creates a folder on your system which contains every current driver installed on your system. Many systems also contain proprietary drivers that can be hard to track down and thus in that case this utility can prove to be even more useful. Now, once you have created a backup then you can simply reinstall those drivers whenever you need them in future and that with just a single click.
If you want to try out this smart utility then you can simply download it from the below given link. After installing it, you may see that it provides you an interface that allows to backup drivers to and from local systems. This tool starts working by first of all finding the list of all the windows drivers and after that simply backs up these drivers to a separate folder mentioned by the user.

5 Signs Your Hard Drive Lifetime is Ending & What To Do

Every one of us owns precious files like personal documents, photos, videos, or audio files, and we typically store them on hard drives. Few people realize that most electronic storage devices, including hard drives, have a rather limited lifetime when compared to the ancient ways of storing information, such as stone, papyrus, paper, or old school records. The average lifetime of a stationary hard drive today is around 5 – 10 years, depending on the type and manufacturer, and it rapidly declines if the drive is subject to strong variations in temperature, humidity, and motion as in not being stationary.
Since a majority of people today own laptops and external hard drives, which get dragged around quite a bit, a realistic hard drive lifetime is probably around 3 – 5 years. This is an extremely short time to reliably store important data. In the best of cases, hard drives fail gradually, giving you the chance to react, get a copy of your data, and replace the storage device before facing a fatal failure. There are a host of signs that hint to a gradual failure of your hard drive. If you are unsure how much life is left on your hard drive, read this article to find out what signs may reveal an approaching failure.

1. Slowing Down Computer, Frequent Freezes, Blue Screen Of Death

These are very unspecific signs that can be caused by a million different things. However, regardless of what the issue behind these symptoms is, it is recommended that you immediately make a backup. If these problems occur after a fresh installations or in Windows Safe Mode, it is almost certain that it is due to bad hardware, and possibly a failing hard drive.

2. Corrupted Data

If you’re beginning to find files that fail to open and are corrupted even though they saved without errors or if files suddenly disappear, you should get worried.

Troubleshooting Common problems

Below is a list of common problems experienced while assembling a PC. Please check the list which could have the possible solution to your problems.

Problem: The PC does not boot, the power and HDD LED does not come on, there is no display on monitor.
Solution: Check that your main power cable is plugged into the ATX power supply. Make sure you have connected the ATX power connector to the motherboard. Check if the cable for the power switch at front of the PC is connected to the correct pins on the motherboard.

Problem: The power LED comes on but the PC does not boot, there is no display on monitor.
Solution: Check if the processor is firmly into the socket. Check CPU jumpers to verify if CPU frequency is correctly set.

Problem: The PC does not boot, but is beeping.
Solution: Different BIOS manufacturers use various number of beeps to indicate faults with various hardware. In an Award BIOS motherboard you will get following beeps:
1 long 2 short: Graphics card is not securely into place, or faulty.
1 long 3 short: Graphics card is not securely into place, or faulty video memory.
Continuous beeps: No memory, or memory not securely into place, or could be faulty.
Continuous high/low beeps: No CPU, or CPU not securely into place, or could be faulty.
Please refer to your motherboard manual to confirm what the beeps are trying to tell you.

Problem: The PC boots but the CPU speed is incorrect.
Solution: The CPU frequency jumper setting is incorrect. Refer to your motherboard manual to set it correctly.

Problem: The HDD is not being detected by the BIOS.
Solution: Check if you connected the IDE cable to the motherboard correctly, is pin 1 on the IDE cable connected to pin 1 on the IDE sockets on both motherboard connector and HDD connector. Check if the HDD jumper is set to master and any other device sharing the same cable is set to slave.

Problem: I can not access my CD/DVD-ROM in DOS mode, hence can not install Windows.
Solution: CD/DVD-ROM device driver is not installed. Install the manufacturer supplied device driver. If you do not have a device driver disk, you can use the windows boot disk which will provide access to your CD/DVD-ROM, so that you can install Windows.

BIOS - Basic Input Output System

Introduction

The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is the lowest level of software in the PC. It is located on a separate chip on the motherboard and is the first thing that is loaded when we turn the computer on.
The BIOS starts by testing each component to make sure everything is operating as it should and that the computer has everything it needs to load the OS. This starting test is called the Power On Self Test, or POST. If any errors are detected during POST, the BIOS will report them either through a series of beeps or by displaying the error on the screen.
usually when we talk about the BIOS we are really talking about the BIOS setup, and the interface that is used to adjust these settings. The BIOS settings are like to core values of the PC and they are used to dictate how the computer will operate at a fundamental level.
To access the BIOS setup, you must press a particular key during the POST, usually this is the 'DELETE' key or the 'F2' key, depending on your motherboard.
As complicated as all this may sounds, in reality we don't have to do much in the BIOS setup, almost all of the default values are fine. There are a few we need to check and may need to be adjusted before we install our OS, but after that we will rarely or never need to come back to the BIOS (unless you intend to overclock that is).
Below are descriptions of which setting to check within each of the menus.

Explanations

Standard CMOS

Inside the standard CMOS menu, you will find the time and date settings, so ensure that these are correct for your time zone. You will also see a list of connected IDE drives and an option to set your floppy disk drive. Unless you are installing windows XP on a SATA drive then you probably do not have any use for a floppy drive and can set this to 'none'.

The 'standard CMOS' is where you can set the Time/date and enable floppy disk drive.

Make Sense of Your Router and Local Network Settings

Quick, define the following: Default gateway, MAC address, and subnet mask. Didn't get all three right? That's OK. Even for seasoned vets who can build a PC blindfolded, networking often ends up being their Achilles Heel, the one area that manages to perplex and frustrate computer users of all skill levels. Blame it on the quirky terminology (Hint: a MAC address has nothing to do with Apple) or a fear of the unknown, but whatever the reason, today is the day you take that first step towards becoming a networking guru.

If you're brand new to networking, considering this your crash course introduction, and if local and wireless LANs are old hat, treat this as a refresher. Let's get started!

Router 101
Routers come in all shapes and sizes, and whether you spend $50 on a basic model or $200+ on a feature-packed unit, they all serve the same basic purpose: direct traffic on your home network. Oversimplified, a router allows PCs on your local network to communicate with each other, as well share an Internet connection with all the computers in your home. To understand how this works, we need to go over the difference between an IP address and a Local IP address:
  • IP Address: In geek speak, this is the logical address for a network adapter. Not unlike your home's physical address, an IP address is a unique identifying number assigned to every device connected to the Internet.
  • Local IP Address: You can think of a local IP address as an apartment number. While the apartment complex has a single physical address (the IP address, in this example), each individual residence has its own apartment number, and the same concept applies to home networks. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigned your location a specific IP address, and if you intend to share that connection with more than one device in your home network -- like multiple PCs, your Xbox 360, and your iPad --  your router will assign each one its own local IP address. These aren't visible to the outside world - as far as the Internet and your ISP are concerned, all data flows through a single IP address no matter which of your home PCs, consoles, or other Internet-connected device is surfing the web. Once that information comes in, it's up to your router to direct the traffic to the appropriate device on your network.

General Questions on SQL SERVER

What is RDBMS?
